HB 4219 Summary

• Amends Michigan Public Health Code Section 7524 to require seizing agencies in municipalities with populations of 600,000 or more to direct 5% of forfeited funds to community organizations operating within that municipality.

• Allows seizing agencies to direct remaining forfeited funds or portions thereof to nonprofit organizations whose primary activity is assisting law enforcement with drug-related criminal investigations and crime solving.

• Specifies that forfeited funds received by seizing agencies must be used only for law enforcement purposes and shall supplement, not replace, otherwise budgeted law enforcement funds.

• Defines "community organization" as an organization exempt from taxation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.

• Takes effect 90 days after enactment.
