Allows insurers and rating organizations to designate certain information in rate filings as trade secrets, exempt from public inspection and freedom of information requests, if the director determines the information qualifies under the Uniform Trade Secrets Act.

Excludes from trade secret protection any filings and accompanying information that were subject to public inspection before the amendments took effect.

Clarifies that policyholders can still request and receive pertinent rate information from insurers, except for information designated and approved as trade secrets by the director.

Amends six sections of Michigan's insurance code to apply consistent trade secret protections across automobile insurance, home insurance, workers' compensation, and other insurance filings.

Effective date: January 11, 2016 (90 days after October 13, 2015 enactment).
