Assault or battery of a pregnant woman when the offender knows of the pregnancy is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 93 days imprisonment or a $500 fine, or both.

A second domestic assault or battery conviction (against a spouse, dating partner, child's other parent, or household member) is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 1 year imprisonment or a $1,000 fine, or both.

Three or more domestic assault or battery convictions become a felony punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment or a $5,000 fine, or both.

Prior convictions from Michigan state law, local ordinances substantially corresponding to assault statutes, or similar laws from other states count toward repeat offense penalties.

Act takes effect July 25, 2016, and does not apply to necessary and reasonable physical force used by school personnel under Michigan school code provisions.
