• Replaces references to "family independence agency" with "department of health and human services" throughout the domestic violence prevention and treatment act.

• Maintains the definition of "domestic violence" to include causing or attempting to cause physical or mental harm, placing family or household members in fear, forcing involuntary sexual activity, and engaging in terrorizing or harassing activity.

• Preserves the definition of "family or household member" to include spouses, former spouses, cohabitants, dating partners, sexual partners, relatives by marriage, parents of common children, and their minor children.

• Takes effect 90 days after enactment into law.
