Building owners must install an approved red reflective Maltese cross symbol (8 inches by 8 inches) at each main entrance to warn firefighters of lightweight building construction.

Symbol placement: within 24 inches to the left of the door, either permanently attached to the exterior surface on a contrasting background or mounted on a contrasting base material.

Applies to multifamily dwellings with 3 or more stories, commercial buildings, and industrial buildings with construction completed on or after the effective date.

Symbol must include a letter designation in the center circle: "R" for light-frame truss roof, "F" for light-frame truss floor system, or "RF" for both roof and floor systems.

Compliance deadline is the earlier of construction completion or one year after the effective date; violations subject to state civil fine of up to $100 or municipal civil infraction as designated by local ordinance.
