School districts, intermediate school districts, public school academies, and achievement authorities must provide at least 30 hours of teacher professional development each school year, delivered in increments of not less than 45 minutes.

Professional development must be based on state board approved standards for professional learning and aligned with either an individual professional development plan for each teacher or a school improvement plan.

Guidelines for professional development must require the training to be targeted to groups of teachers based on commonality of needs and include a portion embedded throughout the school year.

The Department of Education must develop and implement the guidelines no later than 90 days after the act's effective date.

State-approved nonpublic schools may provide professional development to their teachers, which will be credited toward teaching certificate or endorsement issuance if it meets equivalent content and auditing requirements as public school professional development.
