School districts, intermediate school districts, public school academies, and achievement authorities must assign new teachers to mentor teachers rated as "effective" on at least 3 of their 5 most recent annual evaluations and meeting superintendent-established requirements during the teacher's first 3 years of classroom employment.

New teachers must receive at least 90 hours of intensive professional development induction into teaching delivered over at least 15 days in increments of at least 45 minutes per day, based on department guidelines aligned with state board-approved professional learning standards.

New teachers must receive an individual professional development plan covering classroom management and instructional delivery consistent with MCL 38.83a requirements.

School administrators (superintendents, principals, assistant principals, or instructional program administrators) in their first 3 years of employment must be assigned a mentor by their employing entity.

Professional development required under this section is in addition to, and does not count toward, professional development requirements under section 1527; act takes effect 90 days after enactment and is conditional on passage of House Bills 5156, 5157, and 5159.
