Amends the Private Employer's Veterans' Preference Policy Act (2014 PA 508) to update the definition of "veteran" for employment preference purposes.

Defines a veteran as an individual who is a veteran under 1965 PA 190 AND has served at least 180 days of active duty in the U.S. armed forces OR has a service-connected disability from armed forces service.

Allows private employers to voluntarily give preference to veterans in hiring, promotion, and retention decisions when applicants or employees are equally qualified.

Takes effect 90 days after enactment (effective September 20, 2016), conditioned on House Bill 5332 also being enacted into law.
