Amends 1899 PA 214 to update the definition of "veteran" to align with the definition in 1965 PA 190 (MCL 35.61 to 35.62) for appointment to soldiers' relief commissions.

Requires the probate judge in each county to appoint 3 honorably discharged veterans as members of the county soldiers' relief commission, with staggered initial terms of 1, 2, and 3 years, and subsequent terms of 3 years.

Commission members must be county residents and former soldiers, sailors, marines, nurses, or members of women's auxiliaries; they must organize by selecting a chairperson and secretary and file constitutional oaths with probate court.

Probate judges may remove commission members for cause and fill vacancies for unexpired terms; county boards of commissioners shall provide reasonable compensation for members' services.

Takes effect 90 days after enactment (September 20, 2016) and is contingent on enactment of House Bill No. 5332.
