Consumer reporting agencies may charge up to $10.00 for placing, temporarily lifting, or removing a security freeze for consumers under article 2 of the Security Freeze Act.

Consumer reporting agencies may not charge fees for security freeze placement or removal for consumers who have filed a police report for identity theft and provided a copy to the agency.

Active-duty members of the armed forces are exempt from security freeze fees under article 2.

Consumer reporting agencies may not charge fees for protected consumers under age 16 if the agency has a credit report on file for that consumer.

Protected consumers or their representatives who have filed identity theft police reports are also exempt from fees for security freeze placement or removal.

The act takes effect 90 days after enactment.
