Requires owners of Class "A" multiple dwellings to equip each dwelling unit with a single-station or multiple-station smoke alarm complying with state construction code standards.

Mandates that smoke alarms installed on or after the effective date of this 2016 amendment must have photoelectric detection technology as required under the Stille-DeRossett-Hale single state construction code act.

Requires owners of existing buildings converted to Class "A" multiple dwellings to comply with all requirements of the state construction code and its rules.

Establishes criminal penalty of a misdemeanor punishable by a fine not exceeding $500 or imprisonment not exceeding 90 days, or both, for violations.

Takes effect 90 days after enactment, contingent upon passage of House Bill No. 5680 or Senate Bill No. ____ (tie-bar provision).
