Requires school boards to suspend or expel pupils in grade 6 and above for up to 180 school days if they commit a physical assault against another pupil at school.

Defines "physical assault" as intentionally causing or attempting to cause physical harm to another through force or violence, and "at school" to include classrooms, school premises, school buses, and school-sponsored activities.

Makes it the responsibility of expelled individuals and their parents or guardians to locate and enroll in alternative education programs during expulsion.

Directs the Office for Safe Schools to compile and distribute information about alternative education programs and nonpublic schools available to expelled students, and to provide technical assistance to school districts in developing such programs.

Takes effect August 1, 2017, contingent upon enactment of House Bill 5618.
