Increases maximum prison sentence from 10 years to 15 years for assaulting public officials (judges, prosecutors, police officers, court employees, and similar officials) causing serious impairment of body function.

Changes court requirement from "may order" to "shall order" that prison sentences for violations of this section be served consecutively to any other sentences imposed for the same criminal transaction.

Adds language clarifying that the statute covers attempts to cause bodily injury requiring medical attention, expanding the scope of subsection (3).

Defines "obstruct" to include use or threatened use of physical interference or force, or knowing failure to comply with lawful commands.

Establishes effective date of 90 days after enactment into law.
