Defines invisible illnesses as chronic conditions not easily observed or readily detected, including lupus, fibromyalgia, interstitial cystitis, rheumatoid arthritis, vasculitis, Crohn's disease, and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

Notes that nearly 1 in 2 Americans has a chronic medical condition, with 96 percent of those living with invisible ailments and about a quarter experiencing activity limitations.

Establishes the awareness week's theme as "Invisible Illnesses; Visible Hope" to increase public and medical community understanding, reduce stigma, and improve diagnosis and care for invisible illness patients.
