Senate Bill 168 Summary

• Reduces the maximum gross vehicle weight limit for crib vehicles transporting saw logs from 164,000 pounds to 80,000 pounds on designated highways.

• Allows truck tractor and semitrailer combinations transporting saw logs, pulpwood, and tree length poles to exceed 65 feet (up to 70 feet) with load overhang not exceeding 6 feet if semitrailer does not exceed 50 feet.

• Establishes permit requirements for agricultural commodity haulers to exceed seasonal weight restrictions by notifying county road commissions 48 hours in advance; permits must specify routes, dates, times, and speed limits.

• Creates seasonal truck permit system for public utility vehicles to operate on restricted roads during weight restriction periods (March-May), with different requirements for emergency versus nonemergency utility work.

• Takes effect 90 days after enactment.
