First violation by a minor of purchasing, consuming, or possessing alcoholic liquor is a civil infraction with a maximum fine of $100.00; court may order substance abuse screening, assessment, community service, or treatment.

Second violation is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days imprisonment and/or fine up to $200.00; third or subsequent violation is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 60 days imprisonment and/or fine up to $500.00.

Minors using fraudulent identification to purchase alcohol or individuals furnishing fraudulent ID to minors face up to 93 days imprisonment and/or $100.00 fine.

Second or subsequent violators face automatic suspension of operator's or chauffeur's license under Michigan vehicle code section 319.

Effective January 1, 2018; establishes exceptions for minors in religious services, accredited educational courses, undercover law enforcement operations, and those seeking medical assistance for health concerns.
