Senate Bill 342 Summary

• Amends Michigan vehicle registration tax law (MCL 257.801) to add registration tax increases for electric vehicles effective after September 30, 1983.

• Increases registration tax by $75.00 for electric vehicles weighing 8,000 pounds or less, and $200.00 for electric vehicles weighing more than 8,000 pounds.

• Increases registration tax by $25.00 for hybrid/partially electric vehicles weighing 8,000 pounds or less, and $100.00 for hybrid vehicles weighing more than 8,000 pounds.

• Corrects technical references in the motor carrier act citation from MCL 475.1 to 479.43 to MCL 475.1 to 479.42.

• Clarifies that $15.00 of commercial vehicle registration fees shall be deposited in the truck safety fund established under section 25 of 1951 PA 51.
