Physicians and authorized medical providers must test pregnant women at initial examination for sexually transmitted infections, HIV/HIV antibodies, and hepatitis B through approved clinical laboratories.

Women appearing at health care facilities to deliver or receive postpartum care without readily available test records must be tested for the same conditions if no prior results are documented.

Testing requirements do not apply if the physician determines tests are medically inadvisable or if the woman does not consent to testing.

Physicians must maintain records documenting the date tests were ordered and results received, or provide written explanation if tests were not ordered.

Test results and records are confidential and not public records, but shall be made available to local health departments and physicians treating the woman or her offspring.
