Insurers cannot make further payments on fire or explosion claims of $2,000 or more if the insured fails to submit a required report to fire or law enforcement authorities within 21 days of written demand.

Insureds must submit a report prescribed by the Department of Insurance in conjunction with the Bureau of Fire Services containing information about building fires or explosions.

Only applies in cities, villages, or townships with a population of 50,000 or more (in counties under 425,000 population) or any municipality in counties with 425,000 or more population that formally elects to participate.

The Director of Insurance must maintain and distribute a list of participating jurisdictions, with at least 30 days' notice required before additions or deletions become effective.

Insurers and their agents are not liable for damages resulting from withholding payments in compliance with this section.
