SB 920 Summary

• Modifies the distance restriction for specially designated distributor licenses from 2 miles to 2,640 feet (approximately one-half mile) measured along street center lines.

• Allows the Michigan Liquor and Cannabis Regulatory Commission to waive the 2,640-foot distance restriction under specified circumstances, including if the existing distributor purchased less than $50,000 in spirits annually or holds a class A or B hotel license.

• Permits distance restriction waivers when proposed and existing establishments are separated by a major thoroughfare with at least 4 lanes of traffic, or when the proposed establishment is in a neighborhood shopping center with no existing distributor.

• Allows existing specially designated distributors to transfer location within 2,640 feet of another distributor if they show good cause and the other distributor is also within 2,640 feet of a third distributor.

• Takes effect 90 days after enactment.
