Registered sex offenders are prohibited from working within a student safety zone, loitering within a student safety zone, or working at or volunteering for organizations that serve minors or sexual assault victims.

First violation is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 1 year imprisonment or a fine of up to $1,000.

Subsequent violations with one or more prior convictions are a felony punishable by up to 2 years imprisonment or a fine of up to $2,000.

Exceptions apply to individuals who were already working in a student safety zone on January 1, 2006; those whose employment became within a zone due to school relocation or new establishment within 1,000 feet; and those who enter intermittently or sporadically, provided they do not initiate or maintain contact with minors.

The Act takes effect 90 days after enactment and does not prohibit individuals from being charged with other crimes committed while violating this section or exercising voting rights.
