Firms certified to conduct storage tank inspections may apply to the Department of Environmental Quality and pay an annual $1,000.00 fee for authorization to perform required inspections.

Each firm must pay a $203.00 per-tank installation fee with their application, which waives the first annual storage tank fee; owners then pay $61.50 annually per tank at each location.

Storage tanks exclusively receiving crude petroleum from wellheads or refined petroleum products subject to environmental protection regulatory fees are exempt from annual storage tank fees.

Local governments are prohibited from enacting ordinances requiring permits, licenses, approvals, inspections, or fees related to aboveground storage tank installation, use, closure, or removal.

Collected fees are deposited into a hazardous materials storage tank regulatory enforcement fund; fee collection is suspended when the fund exceeds $1,000,000.00 and reinstated only when it drops below $250,000.00.
