Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission celebrates its 50th Anniversary on April 5, 2016, commemorating its establishment on February 8, 1966, under 1965 PA 261.

The park system consists of 13 parks totaling 6,700 acres, 5 golf courses, 3 dog parks, 2 waterparks, 2 nature centers, 2 full-service campgrounds, 5 day-use parks, and the Oakland County Farmers Market.

All millage requests have been approved by Oakland County voters, with the most recent 2010 request receiving 76 percent approval—the highest approval rate ever.

The Commission operates innovative programs including a Mobile Recreation Program with portable ziplines, climbing towers, inflatable packages, and mobile stages, and developed Michigan's first wave pool at Waterford Oaks.

Senate recognizes the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission's 50-year legacy as an innovative leader in providing parks and recreational facilities to county residents.
