Physicians holding expedited licenses under the interstate medical licensure compact are authorized to practice medicine and osteopathic medicine and surgery in Michigan and are treated as fully licensed physicians under state law.

Medical boards may only disclose information about physicians under the compact to other member boards or the interstate commission if the physician holds or is applying for an expedited license and the information is not confidential under Michigan law.

Subpoenas issued under the compact are enforceable in Michigan only if issued by a member board and the physician holds an expedited license from Michigan or has Michigan designated as their state of principal license.

Applicants for expedited licenses must submit fingerprints to the Michigan Department of State Police for state and federal criminal history checks; fingerprints are retained in an automated system with automatic notification if criminal history is updated.

Health facilities and agencies are prohibited from requiring physicians to obtain licensure through the interstate medical licensure compact as a condition of employment, though they may require licenses in other states obtained through any lawful means.
