Schools must grant high school credit to students in grades 9-12 who complete internships or work experiences of at least 4 hours per week for the same duration as traditional courses, with a maximum requirement of 10 hours per week.

Schools may excuse students from at least one instructional period per day during internship or work experience days if the experience is academically appropriate and parents grant permission.

Schools can deny credit if students have a history of course failure, are not on track to graduate, previously earned credit with the same employer, or fail to complete required reflection projects.

Students may appeal credit denials to the superintendent of their intermediate school district, who must respond within 5 business days and can overturn the school's decision.

The law does not apply if oversight costs exceed 16.67% of the school's minimum foundation allowance, and does not affect existing state or federal laws regarding minor employment.
