MI HB4143

Requires the Michigan Department of State Police to maintain a list of qualified volunteers eligible to patrol school premises under the Revised School Code, and make the list available to school districts, intermediate school districts, public school academies, and state-approved nonpublic schools.

Limits qualified volunteers to individuals who are currently or formerly licensed or certified law enforcement officers under the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards Act.

Requires formerly licensed or certified law enforcement officers to submit to a criminal history check (same as school employees), pay for the check costs, repeat the check every 5 years, and be certified to carry a concealed firearm under federal law and Michigan's retired law enforcement officer firearm carry law.

Excludes individuals from the list who would be disqualified from school employment under the Revised School Code.

Takes effect 90 days after enactment, contingent on passage of HB 4144 and HB 4145.
