HB-4416 Summary

• Removes the hunting knife exception from the prohibition on carrying dangerous weapons, making hunting knives subject to the same concealment restrictions as daggers, dirks, and similar weapons except when in dwelling house, place of business, or possessed land.

• Creates new subsection (2) establishing that firearms and hunting knives adapted and carried as hunting knives are exempt from the dangerous weapons carry restrictions in subsection (1).

• Modifies section 227b to remove references to section 227a violations when carrying firearms during felony commission, with mandatory consecutive sentences of 2 years for first offense, 5 years for second offense, and 10 years for third or subsequent offense.

• Updates section 230 regarding defaced firearms to reference section 237a instead of 231a for antique firearm definitions and corrects grammar.

• Repeals sections 227a and 231a of the Michigan Penal Code and becomes effective 90 days after enactment.
