Prescribers prohibited from prescribing more than 100 morphine milligram equivalents (MME) per day in aggregate opioids, effective immediately upon enactment.

Patients with existing opioid prescriptions exceeding 100 MME per day allowed until June 30, 2018 to remain at current levels, with a maximum of 300 MME per day; all prescriptions must comply with 100 MME limit by July 1, 2018.

Beginning July 1, 2018, prescribers cannot dispense more than a 30-day supply of opioids per 30-day period for chronic pain patients or more than a 10-day supply per 10-day period for acute pain patients.

Exemptions apply to opioid prescriptions for cancer pain treatment, palliative care, hospice patients, substance use disorder treatment, and inpatient use in licensed health facilities.

Bill takes effect 90 days after enactment into law.
