Strict discipline academies cannot charge tuition and must not discriminate in admissions based on intellectual ability, athletic ability, achievement measures, disability status, or other illegal bases used by school districts.

Strict discipline academies enroll pupils placed by courts or juvenile agencies, expelled pupils, suspended pupils (over 10 school days), and special education pupils recommended by their individualized education program team.

Academies may additionally enroll pupils in high-security or medium-security juvenile facilities, mental health facilities, child caring institutions, or unaccompanied/resettled minors under age 22 as of September 1.

Pupils enrolled under eligible categories may continue enrollment even after ceasing to meet initial requirements, at the option of their parent or legal guardian, as long as other applicable requirements are met.

Enrollment is open to state residents meeting admission criteria, with preference given to siblings of currently enrolled pupils and automatic enrollment for returning pupils in offered grades.
