Temporary tents or shelters removed daily from the ice are exempt from identification requirements.

Owners must remove fishing shanties before unsafe ice conditions or by a date set by the department, with failure to comply allowing the department or local government to remove and destroy abandoned shanties.

Local governments are prohibited from creating their own ordinances regulating fishing shanty placement, use, marking, or removal on state waters, though they may remove abandoned shanties after the department deadline.
