Consumer reporting agencies must place a security freeze on a consumer's credit report within 5 business days of receiving a request with proper identification.

Consumers may temporarily lift a security freeze within 3 business days (or 15 minutes if requested by phone, email, or secure website) by providing identification and their personal identification number.

Consumers may remove a security freeze within 3 business days by contacting the agency with identification and their personal identification number.

Consumer reporting agencies must place security freezes for protected consumers (minors or incapacitated persons) within 30 days of a request from their representative with proper identification and proof of authority.

Consumer reporting agencies are prohibited from charging any fees for placing, temporarily lifting, or removing security freezes for consumers or protected consumers.
