Superintendent of public instruction cannot approve teacher preparation institutions unless they offer student teaching programs including experiences in rural settings, urban settings, and with English language learners, pupils with disabilities, and high-poverty student populations.

Required student teaching programs must include instruction on social, emotional, and restorative learning practices; introduction to school district evaluation tools; use of data and statistics to inform instruction; and classroom management skills development.

Prohibits student teachers from conducting student teaching in schools they previously attended, though institutions may waive this prohibition if it would impose unreasonable burden on the student teacher.

Teacher preparation institutions must enter partnership agreements with school districts and academies that specify communication methods and establish expectations for student teachers, cooperating teachers, supervisors, and site visit standards.

Beginning July 1, 2021, the superintendent must revoke approval of any previously-approved teacher preparation institution that fails to meet the new requirements, though institutions may reapply for approval.
