HB 5703 Summary

• Requires all law enforcement officers licensed under sections 9, 9b, 9c, and 9d to complete training on lawfully seizing property subject to forfeiture and following forfeiture procedures under Article 7 of the Public Health Code beginning January 1, 2019.

• Officers licensed before January 1, 2019 must complete the forfeiture training by January 1, 2020 to maintain licensure; the commission shall establish minimum training standards.

• Changes language in section 9 from "shall" to "must" regarding rules promulgation and makes minor grammatical revisions to conform statutory language across licensing sections.

• Applies to four categories of law enforcement: general law enforcement officers (section 9), Michigan tribal law enforcement officers (section 9b), fire arson investigators (section 9c), and private college security officers (section 9d).
