Beginning June 1, 2018, the department must ask individuals applying for hunting licenses whether they wish to donate $1.00, $5.00, or $10.00 to a chronic wasting disease fund, with donations collected alongside the license fee.

License agents do not receive commissions under section 43541 for collecting donations, and donations are in addition to regular license fees.

Creates a chronic wasting disease fund within the state treasury that receives donations and may accept money or assets from any source, with interest and earnings credited to the fund.

Fund money may be expended only for: administering the fund, conducting chronic wasting disease research in free-ranging deer or elk, researching prion elimination, disease surveillance and testing, public education and outreach, and enforcing cervid carcass importation orders.

The department cannot incur costs exceeding available fund revenue, and unexpended funds carry over to the next fiscal year without lapsing to the general fund; this act takes effect only if House Bills 5770 and 5771 are also enacted.
