Department of Military and Veterans Affairs must notify Department of Health and Human Services within 24 hours upon receiving an internal report of abuse, neglect, or exploitation concerning a resident veteran in a veterans' facility.

Department of Military and Veterans Affairs must commence its own investigation of the reported abuse, neglect, or exploitation in accordance with a written policy established or approved by the director.

Department of Health and Human Services must conduct an independent investigation separate from the department's investigation, following requirements under section 11b of the Social Welfare Act.

Both departments must forward written reports of their investigations and findings to each other upon completion.

Bill takes effect 90 days after enactment and is contingent on passage of House Bills 5616 and 5617.
