• Requires courts to review alternatives to hospitalization before ordering treatment and allows individuals to request temporary deferral of hearings for up to 60 days (hospitalization) or 180 days (outpatient treatment).

• Establishes procedures for modifying treatment orders when individuals are non-compliant with assisted outpatient treatment, including authorization for hospitalization without a hearing for up to 10 days, with extensions available upon community mental health program recommendation.

• Creates right to object to hospitalization ordered without a hearing and requires six-month clinical status reviews for individuals subject to 1-year involuntary treatment orders.
