School districts, intermediate school districts, and public school academies must report incidents involving crimes and attempted crimes that meet criteria under section 1310a(2) to the department of state police within 24 hours of occurrence.

The office of school safety must compile reports on these incidents at least quarterly and make them available to the school safety commission, department of education, and law enforcement agencies upon request.

Reports submitted under this requirement are exempt from the Freedom of Information Act.

School districts, intermediate school districts, or public school academies that fail to comply with reporting requirements become ineligible to receive school safety grants from the department of state police for the fiscal year of noncompliance.

The law takes effect 90 days after enactment, contingent upon passage of Senate Bill 982 and House Bill 5828.
