Schools are encouraged to contract with external community-based organizations to provide integrated student supports to pupils and families in partnership with school staff.

Integrated student supports must improve coordination and effectiveness of comprehensive services, act as liaison with other organizations, and improve communication between schools and families they serve.

External organizations should utilize evidence-based models proven to increase student achievement and include community school strategies focusing on academics, health services, youth development, and community engagement.

Required components of integrated supports include needs assessments, site-based staff placement in school buildings, enhancement of students' social and emotional development, staff training, and linkage of services to students and families.

The law takes effect 90 days after enactment and defines key terms including "community school strategies," "external community-based organization," and "integrated student supports" as wraparound services targeting academic and nonacademic barriers to learning.
