Increases assault and battery penalties against these workers from a felony (2 years/$2,000 fine) to remain unchanged when no serious injury results.

Increases penalties for assault causing bodily injury requiring medical attention from a felony (2 years/$1,000 fine) to a felony (4 years/$5,000 fine).

Increases penalties for assault causing serious impairment of body function from a felony (5 years/$5,000 fine) to a felony (15 years/$10,000 fine).

Establishes a new felony offense of up to 20 years imprisonment and $20,000 fine for assault causing death of a covered worker, and permits consecutive sentences for violations arising from the same transaction.
