HB-6103 Summary

• Amends MCL 257.698 to change language in subsection (4) from "covered and unlit" to "covered or unlit" regarding unauthorized lamps and reflectors on vehicles.

• Allows motor vehicles to be equipped with up to 2 side cowl or fender lamps emitting amber or white light without glare.

• Permits motor vehicles to have up to 1 running board courtesy lamp on each side emitting white or amber light without glare.

• Authorizes backing lights in red, amber, or white on vehicle rear only when reverse gear is engaged and lights are covered or unlit when not in use to prevent glare.

• Maintains restrictions on flashing, rotating, or oscillating lights except for authorized vehicles including police, fire, ambulance, emergency vehicles, utility vehicles, wreckers, funeral processions, and neighborhood watch programs operating with law enforcement cooperation.
