HB 6106 Summary

• Amends the Tobacco Products Tax Act (1993 PA 327) to redirect certain tobacco tax revenue previously allocated to the general fund into the Michigan indigent defense fund.

• Beginning in fiscal year 2020 and thereafter, $84,100,000.00 annually from tobacco tax revenue credited to the general fund shall be deposited into the Michigan indigent defense fund created under the Michigan Indigent Defense Commission Act (2013 PA 93).

• Maintains all existing distributions of tobacco tax proceeds to the state school aid fund, Healthy Michigan fund, health and safety fund, Medicaid benefits trust fund, and Michigan State Capitol historic site fund.

• Capitalizes "Consumer Price Index" and adjusts reporting requirements for the Michigan state capitol commission to report maintenance plans and large-scale projects exceeding $1,000,000.
