HB 6163 Summary

• Amends the Human Trafficking Notification Act to require hotels and public schools to post workplace human trafficking notices in employee-accessible areas, informing workers about warning signs and how to report suspected trafficking.

• Expands human trafficking notice requirements to include public airports and entities whose properties have been found by courts to constitute public nuisances due to prostitution or human trafficking activities.

• Requires notices to be at least 8.5 by 11 inches with 14-point boldfaced font, posted in English and Spanish (and other languages as determined by the department), and include the National Human Trafficking Resource Center hotline number (1-888-373-7888) and text option (233733).

• Establishes enforcement penalties: entities receiving a second non-compliance notice within 1 year are subject to a civil fine of up to $250; a third notice within 1 year results in a fine of up to $500, with fines deposited into the human trafficking victim assistance fund.

• Takes effect 90 days after enactment and is contingent on enactment of HB 6156.
