HB 6186 Summary

• Adds definitions for airport rescue firefighters, plans examiners, hazardous materials responders, and technical rescue responders to the Firefighters Training Council Act.

• Prohibits use of firefighting foam containing PFAS (perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl substances) with a carbon chain of 6 or more in any firefighter training required under the act.

• Requires firefighter training to include instruction on proper use and storage of PFAS-containing firefighting foam and best environmental and public health practices for containment and disposal following use.

• Requires veterans and persons certified in other states to complete PFAS-related training within 1 year of obtaining a waiver of examination requirements.

• Maintains existing certification standards and examination requirements for fire service members under Michigan occupational safety and health administration regulations.
