HB 6407 Summary

• Amends Michigan Public Health Code to allow licensed practical nurses (LPNs) to deliver methadone in licensed methadone treatment programs without supervision, when delegated by a dispensing prescriber.

• Permits methadone delivery only to registered clients of the program, up to the maximum number of single doses allowed by law, if performed per written protocols and proper drug labeling.

• Allows dispensing prescribers in public health programs without on-site pharmacies to delegate prescription drug dispensing to registered professional nurses, and prelabeled oral contraceptive delivery to appropriately trained individuals.

• Clarifies physician delegation rules for surgical procedures, allowing unlicensed surgical technologists and surgical first assistants to perform procedures under direct physician supervision if authorized by the health facility.

• Takes effect 90 days after enactment.
