Athletic coaches, assistant coaches, and athletic trainers employed by Michigan school districts and public school academies must complete the SafeSport online training program on sexual misconduct provided by the United States Center for SafeSport or an equivalent program approved by the department.

Individuals employed before the effective date must provide a certificate of completion to their school district or academy within 30 days of the effective date.

Individuals hired on or after the effective date must provide a certificate of completion within 7 days of beginning employment.

School districts and academies must immediately terminate the employment of any athletic coach, assistant coach, or athletic trainer who fails to comply with the training requirements.

School districts and academies must reimburse athletic coaches, assistant coaches, and athletic trainers for the cost of completing the required training program.
