Designates May 2018 as Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month in Michigan.

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease affecting approximately 30,000 children and adults in the United States, with close to 1,200 children living in Michigan with the disease.

The defective CF gene causes abnormally thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and obstructs the pancreas, with a median survival age of 41.1 years.

Michigan has eight cystic fibrosis care centers and multiple non-profit advocacy groups including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Rock CF Foundation, and Bonnell Foundation dedicated to raising awareness and supporting patients.

Early infant blood screening is identified as the most reliable and cost-effective method to detect cystic fibrosis and enable early treatment.
