SB-0124 Summary

• Requires segment 1 driver education curriculum to include integrated classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction with a minimum of 24 hours classroom and 6 hours behind-the-wheel experience.

• Mandates classroom instruction occur no more than 2 hours per day over a minimum of 3 weeks, with at least 4 hours completed before behind-the-wheel instruction begins.

• Requires at least 1 hour of classroom instruction on laws pertaining to bicycles, motorcycles, and other vulnerable roadway users including pedestrians, emphasizing awareness of their operation on streets and highways.

• Limits behind-the-wheel instruction to 1 hour per day with no more than 1 student in the front seat and maximum 4 students per vehicle, and allows up to 2 hours of multiple vehicle driving facility experience as substitute credit.

• Prohibits teen driver training providers from substituting behind-the-wheel experience with simulator device training and designates the section as the "Nathan Bower Act," effective 90 days after enactment.
