Individuals assessed driver responsibility fees under certain violations may complete 10 hours of community service as an alternative to paying the fee.

Community service must be completed within 45 days after submitting an application to the Department of Treasury.

The Department of Treasury must mail a one-time written notice to individuals owing fees informing them of the community service option, with forms available at Secretary of State offices and online.

Individuals are limited to one opportunity to complete community service per fee, though the Department of Treasury may allow withdrawal for good cause without counting against this limit.

Upon successful completion of community service verified by the supervising entity, the Department of Treasury must waive the driver responsibility fee; if not completed within 45 days, the Secretary of State suspends the driver's license.
