Beginning September 1, 2018, Michigan public schools are prohibited from using the term "redskins" as a mascot, school name, athletic team name, or for any student group, club, or school-operated entity.

Public schools using "redskins" before the effective date must select and begin using a new mascot or team name by January 1, 2019, and discontinue all use of the term "redskins."

Schools must refrain from purchasing or acquiring uniforms, yearbooks, newspapers, programs, signs, scoreboards, banners, or other materials bearing the term "redskins" for distribution or sale.

Schools must not use the term "redskins" on any website or social media maintained by the school and must refrain from distributing sponsorship or fundraising materials containing the term.

Schools must develop and implement a plan by the end of the second school year after the law's effective date to discontinue use of and replace any existing items bearing the term "redskins" that were purchased or constructed before September 1, 2018.
