School districts must adopt and implement 3- to 5-year school improvement plans annually, including mission statements, student academic goals, curriculum alignment, staff development, and community engagement.

School improvement plans must include strategies for career exploration in grades K-12, work-based learning opportunities in grades 6-12, and instruction on resumes and portfolio development for grade 12 students.

Plans must incorporate alternative assessment measures, technology integration, and structured on-the-job learning opportunities such as apprenticeships and internships.

Intermediate school districts must develop their own 3- to 5-year improvement plans addressing academic support, program accessibility, professional development, and cost containment strategies.

Act takes effect December 24, 2018, contingent upon Senate Bill 684 also being enacted into law.
